Reset banner (2026-05-08): The May 4 MoM below references a $60 / cow / year blended cost target and a 3-year device lifetime. Those figures predate the COTS-first reset captured in ADR 0008 and are now on hold as economic targets — they remain the direction but are not a current commitment. Future T2M conversations should use the post-validation framing rather than the original $60/yr.

Overview

T2M Semiconductor is a global broker of semiconductor IP and software stacks. Unlike typical hardware ODMs, they license the underlying blueprints for chips or provide "Known Good Die" modules. Engaging with T2M allows JAAB Tech to potentially own and control its core hardware technology stack.

Strategic Importance

Interaction with T2M has validated that high-efficiency NB-IoT is viable for the cattle tracking form factor in South America.

Key Technical Insights:

  • Proven in Market: T2M already has active deployments of button-style yellow ear tags using their IP for cattle tracking in South America.
  • NB-IoT Performance: They demonstrated standard-size ear tags operating as real-time NB-IoT trackers. This suggests their silicon IP is highly optimized for ultra-low power.
  • Dual Path Evolution:
    1. Direct-to-Cloud (NB-IoT): Standalone nodes bypassing the collar gateway entirely if cellular coverage is sufficient and TCO meets the $20/year target.
    2. Custom Mesh (802.15.4g): Licensing T2M's low-power Sub-GHz IP to build a proprietary, royalty-free mesh tag, avoiding protocol vendor lock-in.

Strategic Positioning

  • Uruguay as a Testbed: JAAB Tech has positioned Uruguay as the initial validation site (leveraging ANII/MGAP momentum) before scaling to the 300 million head of cattle in the Mercosur region (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay).
  • IP Ownership: Transitioning from "buying modules" to "licensing IP" provides a path to long-term sovereign control of the hardware ecosystem.

2026-05-12 Andrés replies inline See "May 12 Q&A — JAAB answers" below.
2026-05-13 Prashobh asks for timelines Prototype / sampling / mass production. Wants alignment for upcoming meeting with their solution partner.
2026-05-15 Andrés clarifies timing Early stage; investor pressure but no strict timeline. Phased approach; open to non-optimized start.
2026-05-15 Prashobh confirms tri-party meeting upcoming T2M will propose dates for a tri-party discussion with their solution partner (Pradeeban added to thread).

2026-05-04 — Introductory call MoM (T2M-authored)

Topics covered: - Requirements for cow tracking in LatAm: cost, coverage, health/theft/financial use cases, government-mandated location reporting and accuracy. - Technical architecture exploration: hybrid systems with gateway collars + simple ear tags, mesh networking, communication standards. Original blended-cost target: $60/cow/year. Original device lifetime: 3 years. (Both figures are now on hold per ADR 0008.) - Business model: JAAB manages the software platform and data analytics, integrates open hardware, avoids being a reseller of complete solutions. - Available technologies and partnership actions: T2M to share NB-IoT tag info, discuss Globalstar satellite solutions, kick off NDA.

Action items: - [x] NDA execution — Andrés shared the NDA template (UY jurisdiction). T2M legal review. - [ ] Product information follow-up — Prashobh to share more on the existing NB-IoT tag and engage their manufacturing partner about pilot use.

2026-05-12 Q&A — JAAB answers

These responses were shared with T2M before our partner-facing briefs were genericized. They reveal the specific vendor shortlist JAAB is evaluating; future external sharing should use the genericized partner_tech_stack.md instead.

T2M's question JAAB's answer
Ear-tag or neck-collar form factor? Both — two device classes. Ear-tag for all animals (cheap, 3-year zero-maintenance, Sub-GHz, 1 km between animals). Collar on a small portion of the herd as a mobile gateway (NB-IoT / satellite uplink, heavy/serviceable battery, edge processing).
Solar/energy-harvesting interest? Yes, critical. Already evaluating energy harvesting (e-peas referenced).
Data acquisition/transmission frequency? Mandatory ≥ 4 positions/cow/day baseline; plus dynamic alerts on events (theft, animal lost, etc).
Current solutions / platforms under benchmark? Connectivity: Skylo, Sateliot, Globalstar. Modular comms (collar): Blues Notecard for Skylo (we like the modular concept; not sold on the closed-platform aspect). Sub-GHz mesh: NeoMesh (and other proprietary options) — we are not aware of a fully open standardized mesh for this use-case.

2026-05-13 — Prashobh's timeline question

T2M asked for tentative timelines on prototype / sampling / mass production to align their internal team and solution-partner discussion.

2026-05-15 — JAAB's timing reply

  • Currently in the early stages of the initiative.
  • One investor is a cattle owner pushing for early implementation, but no strict timeline yet.
  • Strategy is incremental: open to starting early with a non-optimized solution and transitioning to a more customized, scalable phase later.
  • (This response is well-aligned with ADR 0008 — same posture, in T2M-friendly language.)

2026-05-15 — Prashobh's reply

  • Acknowledged JAAB's phased posture as helpful clarification.
  • Confirmed the dual-device concept (ear-tag + collar gateway) gives them better clarity on deployment expectations and scalability.
  • T2M is now aligning internally and with ecosystem partners to propose an architecture.
  • Tri-party meeting upcoming — T2M will share dates to discuss with their partner team. Pradeeban added to the thread.

Next Steps

  • [ ] Receive proposed dates for tri-party meeting with T2M's solution partner.
  • [ ] When external pack shared with T2M, prefer the genericized partner_market_landscape.md and partner_tech_stack.md over restating the full vendor shortlist as in the May 12 reply.
  • [ ] T2M still owes: NDA execution (legal review) + existing NB-IoT tag product info.
  • [ ] Evaluate NB-IoT link budget and power consumption data for T2M's existing South American deployments once shared.
  • [ ] Request detailed technical specifications for 802.15.4g IP blocks and NB-IoT "Known Good Die" modules.

Strategic notes

  • T2M sits on the post-validation custom-silicon path per ADR 0008, not on the immediate MVP critical path. The current conversation with them is appropriately at the "discovery + relationship" stage — the NDA + tri-party intro is the right shape for now; deeper IP-licensing conversations belong post-validation.
  • T2M's "T2M is a broker, not an ODM" positioning is a strength for our IP-sovereignty thesis — we want to own the silicon-level IP eventually, not be reselling someone else's module.
  • Their existing yellow button-style ear-tag deployment in South America is a high-value reference point — request data when the partnership progresses.
